In April we produced a video for the Breathe LA organization of Los Angeles. Shot with two Panasonic Varicams and edited back at Sloan Productions in San Diego on our high definition non-linear edit system by Bob Sloan. Photographers were Jeff Landie and Jim O’donnell. See the video below.
Intersport – Surfer’s Healing
Director of Photography, Bob Sloan shoots while Lauren Salituro of Intersport conducts an interview with Danielle Paskowitz of Surfers Healing, A Foundation for Autism. Lauren’s feature will air in the CBS Program “Courage in Sports”. Intersport is a long time client of Sloan Productions, relying on us for their many varied projects from commercials and promos to programming for their network shows.
Outdoor Lighting
Great outdoor lighting utilizes a combination of artificial and natural light sources. During this production for The Golf Channel and Titleist the sun is reflected from both hard reflector boards, a large reflective cloth panel, as well as daylight balanced continuous light source HMI production lamps.
The Importance of Good Sound
Great quality sound is just as important as are great pictures. Sound recordist Ron Hyatt extends a directional microphone to John Madden as he shares his opinion of an upcoming Monday Night Football game.
Technology & Innovation
Innovating and advancing new technology in photography is one of Bob’s passions. During this shoot we are using a Chromatte system from Reflecmedia. Chromatte is a different way of accomplishing green or blue screen photography using a light-ring on the lens with blue or green LED lights embedded in it. The lights then reflect off a background made up of millions of glass beads creating an even key color. This allows green or blue screen photography in more confined spaces, with less lighting equipment, and more flexibility in subject lighting. The net result for our clients are dramatically lower costs.
Conference Video Services in San Diego
Sloan Productions provided facilities and crew for Hall Media Productions and their client, the Taking Care of Your Diabetes Conference.

Sloan Productions orchestrated the movement and technical quality of five Panasonic SDX 900 camcorders between ballrooms, conference rooms, and outdoor areas capturing live switched proceedings for the Taking Care of Your Diabetes website.
Redrock Micro’s M2 Encore
I’ve been using the Redrock Micro M2 Encore imaging system with a Sony Z1U HDV camera for some of our clients and am very impressed with it. It has minimal light loss, about a third of a stop. We have made it a standard offering with our HD crews in San Diego and Los Angeles.. We use Zeiss prime lenses with the M2 yielding super sharp images with shallow depth of field. Shallow depth of field is virtually impossible with standard small imager cameras. In the photo above right, Peter Ryan of Bridge Street Productions, conducts an interview for their client IBM. Angels and Yankees Player Intros
Last week we were in Anaheim, CA to shoot player introductions of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Russell Gabay, Vice President & Executive Producer of Broadcast Operations for Major League Baseball, New York. Capturing against the “Green Screen”, Director of Photography Bob Sloan leads a Sloan Productions crew. San Diego is our home base but we also maintain a Los Angeles presence. In this photo, Yankees player Alex Rodriguez recites his name and position. These clips will be used by Major League Baseball for their international television feed during the playoffs that culminate with the 2009 World Series. Along with the player introductions, Bob also captured several Time Lapse sequences for the same use. Sloan Productions provides professional production crews in San Diego and Los Angeles, to networks, independent producers, and corporations. This project was produced by MLB producer Daryl Martins.
Sloan Productions at Comic-Con for HBO
Sloan Productions provides high definition San Diego production crew for HBO at Comic-Con 2009. HBO Creative Services producer Chris Denniston interviews Alan Ball, creator of HBO’s hit series True Blood. Director of Photography Bob Sloan focuses one of his Panasonic Varicams on Ball during the four day pop culture convention. Sloan Productions has serviced thousands of clients for over 30 years with professional video production in San Diego. For this shoot we employed a ring light that provides the most flattering light when the subject is close to the camera as it fills in facial shadows at the same axis as the lens. Sloan Productions is available for similar assignments in San Diego and elsewhere when professional television production crews are required.
NFL Playoffs
As the San Diego Chargers made their run in the playoffs, ESPN-The Worldwide Leader in Sports, relied on us for their gameday production needs gathering b-roll, player sound, & feeding stand-ups of Bob Holtzman & John Clayton for ESPN‘s Countdown program. We employed two pop-up shelters for intermittent heavy rains, (yes, in San Diego…). Shari Greenberg Producer.
