Innovating and advancing new technology in photography is one of Bob’s passions. During this shoot we are using a Chromatte system from Reflecmedia. Chromatte is a different way of accomplishing green or blue screen photography using a light-ring on the lens with blue or green LED lights embedded in it. The lights then reflect off a background made up of millions of glass beads creating an even key color. This allows green or blue screen photography in more confined spaces, with less lighting equipment, and more flexibility in subject lighting. The net result for our clients are dramatically lower costs.
Chromatte by Reflecmedia for the NFL Network
We were contracted by The NFL Network to shoot player introduction shots of the San Diego Chargers football team. Needing green screen backgrounds, Bob is using the Chromatte system from Reflecmedia. Our Chromatte system is also available as a rental item.
Getting it Right the First Time
Sometimes we only get one chance at a shot and must predict what will happen and how to shoot it. During filming of a Video News Release for a local shopping mall a motorcyclist rides through a (simulated), plate of glass. Bob is to the left of the scene and has also set up a low angle un-manned camera to double the footage of this one-take shot.
The High Definition Palette
High Definition Cameras allow a more versatile palette to the photographer allowing more ability to “paint” with filtered light. In the older system of NTSC it is impossible to portray some colors. Director of Photography Bob Sloan shoots an interview for ESPN with boxer Shane Mosley.
Multi-Camera Camcorder Production
During taping of The Golf Fitness Academy by Titleist, hosts Greg Rose and Dave Phillips discuss golf exercise with a guest. Sloan Productions has shot five seasons of GFA with four Betacam SP camcorders & transforming Titleist’s Carlsbad, CA gym into a television studio.
Working with Sharks
With the popularity of sharks in television programming Sloan Productions has answered the call on numerous occasions to share the set with them. In this photo, Bob Cranston draws a blue shark closer to the camera during a shoot for Inside Edition off of San Diego.
Supplementing the Sun
Sometimes sunshine alone isn’t enough. Great pictures don’t just happen. For network quality results, shadows must be filled in when working in direct sunshine. It takes a big light to compete with the sun. In this case, a daylight color balanced “HMI” lighting instrument requires it’s own operator to follow with on-camera talent in a reality TV program for Fox Television.
Jib Arm Camera Mounting
On location in Las Vegas using a “jib arm” to create compound camera moves incorporating panning, tilting, booming, and lateral movement as well as zoom and focus.
Production in Surgery
Working in the operating room has some very specific challenges. One is positioning a camera above the surgeon to see his point of view. Sloan Productions has executed many single and multiple camera surgery shoots including oral, open-heart, & plastic surgery.
Attention to Detail
High end corporate production requires the same amount of discipline and care that goes into a network television program. Jeff Landie focuses a Sony Digital Betacam Camcorder on the subjects of a corporate video for Terminix Pest Control.
